JUNIOR ORIGINAL CONCERT
What is Junior Original
Concert (JOC)?
JOC, or Junior Original Concert, refers to a concert that features Yamaha Music
Education System (YMES) students and graduates performing their own original
compositions. Thousands of Yamaha students around the world participate
each year in JOC Concerts that may be held on the local, regional, or
international level.
What is a local JOC?
A Yamaha Music School may choose to sponsor a local school JOC that features
students from the local school.
What is a regional JOC?
These JOC events will represents schools from different regions of the United
States. In 2009, the regions represented are West, South, and East, and
the concerts will feature selected Yamaha students composer / performers from
Yamaha Music Schools throughout the country. Students (and their teachers)
that travel out of town in order to perform will receive scholarships for travel
and accommodation.
What is IJOC?
The International Junior Original Concert (IJOC), sponsored by the Yamaha Music
Foundation, Japan, is held annually in Tokyo. The concert features some of
the most outstanding Yamaha student composer / performers from around the world.
Each spring, the Yamaha Corporation of America Music Education Department
invites a select group of American Yamaha students to submit an IJOC application
to the Yamaha Music Foundation. The students, selected by YCA staff,
receive intensive training in preparation for their IJOC application.
